“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.” — The Book of Isaiah chapter 53 and verse 5
In Chapter 2 we learnt that Jesus can be our Provider when we have physical needs. In this chapter we will touch on the need for healing, and Jesus being our Healer.
In The Book of Isaiah chapter 53 and verse 5 we read that the suffering and beating Jesus endured during His crucifixion was also for us today. Jesus being whipped, the pain He endured, the bloodshed — all of it was so that we can receive healing, if we believe He can heal us.
The Bible records many accounts of healing, and during the time Jesus was on earth, many were healed. In The Book of Matthew chapter 8 and verses 2-3, we read about a leper that Jesus healed; in The Book of Mark chapter 2 and verses 3-12, Jesus heals a paralysed man, and there are many more.
One story that stands out when talking about healing is The Book of Luke chapter 8 and verses 43-48. There was a woman who had been sick with an issue of blood for twelve years. She had spent all her money on doctors, but they could not heal her. She believed that Jesus would heal her, but on this day there was a large crowd around Him. She believed, and had faith, that all she needed to do was touch His garment to be healed. She pushed through the crowd, touched His garment, and was healed instantly.
In all these healings, the people believed that Jesus could heal them, and because they believed, they received their healing.
This is the same Jesus we spoke about in Chapter 1, who is our Saviour. He can heal us too, today. All we need to do is, like everyone else we have spoken about, believe that Jesus can heal us. No matter what sickness you may have, Jesus can heal you. All you need to do is believe that Jesus is your Healer, have faith that He can heal you, put that faith into action, and ask Jesus for your healing — the healing that He promises in His Word.
Take some time now to evaluate your life and allow Jesus to minister to you.
Are you sick and in need of healing? Do you believe that Jesus can heal you? If you do not believe, spend some time praying to Jesus your Saviour, and ask Him to reveal to you that He can be your Healer.
Once you believe that Jesus is your Healer, spend some time praying and seeking Him for your healing. And if you know someone who needs healing, share this with them, so they too can learn about a Saviour who can heal them.
Father God, thank You for sending Your Son to save us. Thank You, Jesus, for enduring the pain, the abuse and the suffering You went through on the cross, so that I can have healing. Father God, I come to You today, through Your Son Jesus Christ, and stand firm on Your promise in The Book of Isaiah chapter 53 and verse 5 that says, “By His stripes we are healed.” Heal me, mighty God, in Jesus’ mighty name. I know that there is no sickness too big for You, and I claim my healing in Jesus’ name. Touch me, heal me, take away this sickness, this pain, and renew my body. I know it is not Your will that I be sick, so please, mighty God, heal me. You are the same God who healed the leper, the paralysed man, and the woman with the blood disorder — the same God who will heal me. God of miracles, touch and heal me. If there is any doubt or unbelief, please remove it and help me trust You fully for my healing. I thank You, God, for I know You will heal me. I give You praise, glory and honour. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
